Fresh seed from the woad plant. This ancient European dye is famous for its blues. It is a biennial plant making a rosette in the first year. It is these leaves that contain the most dye. It can be used as a fresh leaf dye, or the pigment extracted and used in a vat. In the second year it produces tall yellow flower spikes and then goes to seed. Sow in the spring or late summer.
